2014 CMA Awards – Predictions & Live Results

The 48th edition of the CMA Awards will hit the air tonight at 8 pm ET on ABC. That means we get to sit through another pointless award show and watch lots of performances from pop and hip-hop singers because mainstream country music is ashamed of itself. I’m sure there will many moments where we are face palming and yelling expletives at the television screen. But we’re doing it together! I’ll be posting the live award results right here. As for my commentary and analysis of the show, I’ll be live tweeting on Twitter. You can follow me at @realcountryview or twitter.com/realcountryview. For those not on Twitter you can simply go to the Twitter link I just listed and hit refresh throughout the night.

To see my initial thoughts and opinions on the 2014 CMA Award Nominations, click here. My predictions can be found directly below the live results. If I get half of my predictions I’ll feel lucky because you never know what backstage politics are taking place for this award’s show. All I know is when in doubt just pick Miranda Lambert because she always cleans up at these awards shows. So let’s take a look at my predictions and who I would pick…

Maybe Cole’s recent jump into number one with “Hope You Get Lonely Tonight” will help his cause, but I feel like Thomas Rhett has more ground to stand and done more work to “earn” the New Artist award. Obviously, I’d love to see Brandy Clark take the New Artist hardware home, but I think Rhett takes that one home.

I also got a feeling that Eric Church might swoop in with a Surprise win of Album of the Year, but other than those, I agree with not only your predictions, but your choices of who you want to win. Dierks (minus Drunk on a Plane), Kacey, and ZBB all deserve awards tonight.

I totally agree with your nooooo on Luke Bryan. Strait deserved it again this year, especially after another year of sold out concerts, some in like 2 minutes?

I still don’t agree with Luke Bryan winning EOTY over George Strait. I wouldn’t have been upset if Miranda, Keith or Blake (granted he’s bro-country, but he’s got some degree of talent, even though Miranda is a better artist overall) had won. The only reason why Luke won was due to solid album sales and popularity. We all know he can’t sing, drives trucks into lakes, and shakes his nonexistent ass for teenage girls which makes him come off like a predator.

Overall, handing him, Little Big Town, Blake Shelton and FGL awards they don’t deserve is a slap in the face to the genre as a whole. Thank God most of those idiots were shut out of the awards. Maybe there’s hope yet for our genre.
