Just because stats like this interest me: We have 15/25 reviewed. And a combined score of our reviews is 65.5/150.

I don’t think it’d be fair to judge greatest hits like that, but considering the remaining 7 we haven’t reviewed, I don’t think that ratio would change too much. Just my Sunday two-cents. Hopefully much better albums from better country artists creep their way in this year.

That doesn’t surprise me too much. There are a lot of mediocre albums that came out last fall occupying the chart. Of those remaining 7 I think Dierks, Miranda and Church would get positive reviews. Bryan and Swindell would get negative reviews. Eldredge would probably be in-between. The rest would be ineligible. So maybe slightly more positive?

Ryan Bingham’s last three albums have made the top 25, so he should make it this week.

That’ll be cool! And with so much potentially good albums coming out next month too, hopefully people buy those!

Man there is a lot of bad in there…

However there are some of my favorites from last year like Metamodern, and Riser, and the Outsiders (this is an unpopular opinion I kmow haha). Speaking of albums, I saw the tracklist for Love and Thefts album.. yikes.. two songs called “Can’t Wait For The Weekend” and “Tanlines”….ugh. Looks like “Whiskey On My Breath” may be a fluke. Sorry to go off topic here.

Anyway I agree with your scores for these albums for the most part. And I do think you’d like Dierks album and maybe Mirandas. And with Cole Swindells and Lukes albums I can say that they’d each probably get a 2-3/10.

Man that’s disappointing to hear about Love and Theft. I was really expecting it to be a sneaky good album, but those song titles don’t sound encouraging. Oh well at least the rest of February has some awesome releases.

I really like Dierks’ album and I would probably give it an 8/10 or somewhere around that. I unfortunately never got a chance to review it. I haven’t listened to Miranda’s album entirely and everyone knows my stance on Church’s album. And I would maybe even go lower than 2-3 for Luke and Swindell. Haha!

Yes, Zack is right, there is a lot of bad here. It is hard to be too hopeful about the future when Hunt, Aldean, Bryan, FGL, and Rice are all in the top 10, and most of these albums have been charting for several months. And then we have the artists who like to both surprise and depress us, depending upon the single: Eric Church, Blake Shelton, Miranda Lambert, LBT, Lee Brice, et al. And then we have the total surprise of Tim McGraw’s album, which is his best material since the late 90’s / early 00’s. And, as we would expect, we also have the superstar heroes of the past: Garth Brooks, George Straight, and Alabama. And, most encouragingly, we also have the modern artists who are (for the most part) consistently good: Carrie Underwood and Dierks Bentley…and perhaps Zac Brown. And, finally, there is the lone indie artist, Sturgill, who appears by the sole power of his genius and heart. Wow, that is quite a mixed bag!! I have no idea what country music will sound like in 10 or 20 years.

By the way, I am very happy to see that Alabama has a gospel album! I will definitely be listening to that.

it hurts me to see how many crap makes the top 10. I can hardly believe that crappy church record is still selling a lot, it is just a mess and it sucks. better that I don’t say nothing at all about raelynn and chase rice.
sorry josh, but I’m glad to see Hunt replaced aldean at #1. at least hunt is more talented than aldean and I enjoyed his record, while I hate aldean’s. still, Hunt doesn’t belong to country and I’ll fought him in every way I can.

    • Josh Schott January 27, 2015 / 11:27 am

Actually Hunt replaced Garth Brooks’s album. But I definitely like Hunt’s personality over Aldean’s. And Hunt is more talented than Aldean too.

Personality wise ANYONE beats Aldean, hell even Church by a small margin. But I’m sorry I don’t see any talent in Sam. I know that quite a lot of people think he is but what is it? The mediocore voice? The ok but not great songwriting? If I had my choice between Aldean and Hunt, I’m sorry but I’m going with Aldean

    • Lorenzo January 30, 2015 / 3:41 pm

yeah sorry I missed the chart dated January 21 and I thought aldean was still at #1. and yeah, after all he looks like a good guy. He should go pop/R&B and then I’ll support him

Zack i firmly believe aldean is the worst thing ever happened to country music. he quietly established himself with acceptable music and then he destroyed our amazing genre. He introduced bro country, rap, hard rock and R&B in country music, he wants to act cool and sexy but he’s just a douche and the worst thing is that so many people think he’s great. He has an incredible fan base and this drives me mad. he has no talent! he can’t sing, can’t write his music, can’t play guitar. what an idiot.
hunt’s lyrics are ok and nothing great, but I give him credits for his musical versatility and his production choices. but he should go pop!
