The Americana Airplay Chart Rundown [August 24]

Jason Isbell Something More Than Free

This is The Americana Airplay Chart Rundown. Every week I’ll post the top 40 from the Americana Airplay chart, which is obtained from AmericanaRadio.org. From the site: “The Americana Airplay chart represents the reported play of terrestrial radio stations, nationally syndicated radio shows, satellite radio and internet stations who have agreed to submit weekly spin counts. For more information please visit www.americanamusic.org.”

The goal of this feature is to track and monitor the current most popular music in the Americana realm, as I believe it’s starting to take on a bigger importance in the world of music, especially concerning the current state of country music. In addition it will bring some new names to the site that haven’t been covered here before and could lead to more Americana coverage. It’s also a place to discuss anything going on in the Americana genre at this moment. Be sure to weigh in on the chart in the comments below.

It’ll be interesting to see how long it takes “Pageant Material” to unseat “Something More Than Free” as the #1 album, if it does at all. It’s still way behind it in spins.

It’s going to take a while. But I think eventually it’ll get to #1. It isn’t easy unseating the Americana king and one of the most critically acclaimed albums of the year. Then again this is a nice problem to have and a problem I wish the country chart could have.

Yeah, it’s the same thing on the Texas charts. Wade Bowen has been on top for four weeks now and has only just started to lose spins for “Sun Shines on a Dreamer.” I like that you pointed out we should have this problem in country music too, because I was thinking that the other day and how it seems like nothing is good enough to stay at the top of the country airplay chart on its own merit anymore. It speaks to the quality of the music and the validity of the charts that both the Americana and Texas charts are seeing people with staying power at the top while Billboard Country Airplay replaces one mediocre and/or terrible song after another at the top almost each week.
