For years The Late Show with David Letterman brought several performances from talented country and roots artists. Letterman loved to have these artists on his show, such as Jason Isbell, Sturgill Simpson, Shovels & Rope and countless others. His willingness to bring on these artists on his show helped bring these deserving artists new fans. So new host of The Late Show, Stephen Colbert, had some big shoes to fill in this regard. Well he’s off to a good start doing it, as last night Chris Stapleton joined the show to perform “Nobody To Blame” from his debut album Traveller. A great song from a fantastic album being featured on The Late Show is a good site to see. Check out the performance and be sure to weigh in on it in the comments below:

Colbert is a native of South Carolina; so, I presume he has had plenty of exposure to country. So, he’s in a position to continue that aspect of Letterman’s legacy if he chooses.

So glad he chose this song to sing under a national outlet such as the Late Show. Of all the great tunes on this album, i always thought this song had single material written all over it. Definitely has that late 70s Paycheck, feel to it.

Why is this shocking? It seems that we have gotten used to the popular vote being correct. This time the award went to the person who has the most talent. Chris has been writing for all of these popular guys for a long time so it is time that he got a little spotlight.
