Michael Ray’s Real Men Love Jesus sounds like good Country to me. So does Jana’s I Got The Boy. I haven’t heard a lot of the songs on the list yet to judge. But so far I haven’t heard a Bro Osbourne song that does sound Country. Stay A Little Longer sure isn’t. But I guess you have to go solely on a song by song basis in determining the Country-ness factor. Which is really hard for me to do. Nashville was /is really good at having an artist’s first single release sound “Country”. Then bam… They go pop next release. It’s like they’re playing us all. Of course now they don’t bother hiding the pop and come right out the gate with it.

One song on the list I’ll question is Kelley’s The Driver. It’s more like an Americana Folk Pop ballad, (like Cam’s Burning House). No audible Country instrumentation, or maybe I haven’t listened closely enough. Plus it’s too similar to other songs: The overall theme reminds me of Seger’s Turn The Page. The verses are like Billy Joel’s Piano Man. Chorus sounds like Zac’s Sweet Annie, minus the Country sound. But if the criteria is quality lyrics, its all good.

“Real Men Love Jesus” : “Fishin'”, “Fast Cars”, “Football”, “Cowboys”, “Outlaws”, “Saturday Nights”, “Sunday Morning”, “Pretty Girl”, “Dance Floor”, “Cold Beer”, “Dirty Hand”, “Mama”, “Forty Hours”, “Country Girl”, “Daddy”, “Pray”…

It’s a small field of good songs now & it’s not getting better with Shelton, the new Randy Houser song & Sam Hunt moving to the top of the charts in the next few weeks.

Checkout/Album: Randy Houser – Fired Up (Stoney Creek)
What a bad, bad album. Overproduced, loud & too long. 17 tracks (15 + 2 bonus tracks). “Little BIt Older, A Little Budweiser”?! The rest is not better.
