Jeff Crosby first came onto our radar last year when he released his album Waking Days with his band The Refugees. When it comes to most upcoming and new acts, many of them still aren’t sure what they want their sound and direction to be. After listening to Waking Days, it was clear this wasn’t a problem for this group. Jeff Crosby and The Refugees really impressed me with Waking Days. As I said in my review: Combining rock and roll, blues and country, this group creates a compelling sound of music that I think any true music fan could come to appreciate and enjoy. The instrumentation immediately catches your ear and each song has meaning and emotion behind it. It’s impossible not to connect with Waking Days.
Now at the time Crosby was also the guitarist for Jerry Joseph and The Jackmormons. But after two years, he’s decided to part ways with the group. That’s because Crosby has signed with UK-based label At The Helm Records and will be re-releasing Waking Days under the label. It’s an excellent move for both the label and the band. Crosby and The Refugees are a group I think could really make some noise with a label behind them now. As part of the rollout of the new album, Crosby made a video for what I consider the highlight song of Waking Days, “Canyons.” Country Perspective has the privilege to exclusively premiere that video right here, which you can watch below. It’s a song about what kind of impact loving someone can have on your life and how it can shape the person you become as a result of the experience. I highly recommend this song and the entire album if you have not heard it yet.
