Video – Jon Pardi Covers Randy Travis’ “Forever and Ever Amen”

The CMA Awards are pulling out all of the stops in promoting and building attention for the 50th anniversary of the show. First they released the near-universally beloved “Forever Country,” which is lighting up the digital sales charts, debuting at #1 on the Billboard Hot Country songs chart. Now they’ve announced the Forever Country Covers series, where artists of today cover some of the most iconic and beloved songs that have won CMA awards over it’s 50 years. The first to kick if off is new traditionalist Jon Pardi covering the legendary Randy Travis’ classic hit “Forever and Ever Amen.” It won the Single and Song of the Year awards at the 1987 CMA Awards. Picking Pardi to cover this song was absolutely perfect, as he fits the song like a glove and certainly does Travis justice. Give it a listen and let me know your thoughts in the comments below.

He is fantastic. I really wish he would have been nominated for new artist of the year. He is a real country artist.

    CMA Covers. Good idea.
Jon Pardi is a big talent. But there is only one guy who can sing a Randy Travis tune…

    Billboard Country Update (09/26):
Jon Pardi (“Dirt On My Boots” – #49) is the Hot Shot Debut.
Aaron Lewis (Sinner) is the new #1 album. Replacing Jason Aldean after one week.

Here’s the deal with me and Jon Pardi…

His voice just doesn’t do it for me. Is he country? Absolutely. Is he better than (insert A-Lister name)? Yes. But his vocals are borderline grating on my ears. Of course, he doesn’t sound like anybody else on the radio, so maybe that works in his favor. I know I’m in the minority in readers of this site, but he’s not one of my favorites.

However, I think it’s telling that they chose him to cover Randy Travis, and make this the first cover video that they release.
